Our Role

People First Foundation (PFF) (registered as a Trust) is an organization with a mission. A lot of soul searching has been done for many years about why we find ourselves in this current impasse. However, a reawakening and rebuilding of the sector is currently underway.

People First Foundation sees itself as part of this reawakening, a reclaiming of the gains of the past. However, although there may be exceptions, our collective understanding is that currently there are still too many organizations within the sector where there is:
  1. A lack of experience of leadership and management to face the demands of our time
  2. Too much competition for scarce resources amongst NGOs
  3. Role confusion at the governance level
  4. Directors and managers are stressed out and engaged in crisis management
  5. There is no proper financial planning and long term donor cultivation
  6. Organizational objectives are not specific and clear enough
  7. Staff are not working according to clear work plans
  8. Team work is absent with lots of internal conflict
  9. Policies are either absent or not implemented leading to a free for all and nepotism

To address the above challenges PFF has developed various programmatic interventions focused on building the capacity of leadership and management.
This will happen through:
  • leadership circles,
  • workshops,
  • leadership exchanges,
  • information sharing,
  • horizontally based learning conferences,
  • site visits and study tours,
  • seminars,
  • mentoring and coaching.
  • We also plan a quarterly newsletter to promote networking and a culture of sharing amongst various stakeholders in the sector.
An important aim will be to link the new generation of leadership with the older generation on the basis of mutual respect and a sharing of experiences.

Founded in 2009, PFF it is not just another organization. Our trustees are all highly skilled
development practitioners who have volunteered to share their skills and expertise with marginalized
organizations on the ground. We are doing so selflessly because we believe these are organizations at
the cutting edge of social change!
